Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on the Anniversary of the Parliament Hill Attack

October 22, 2022

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on the anniversary of the Parliament Hill Attack:

“In 2014, two days after Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent was murdered in an act of terror, Canada suffered yet another attack – this one in the heart of our nation’s capital. The vicious attack at the National War Memorial and on Parliament Hill scarred our country in a way we will not soon forget.

“Corporal Nathan Cirillo was murdered during the attack as he stood guard over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He lost his life honouring the many brave men and women who laid down their lives to uphold and defend Canada’s freedom.

“Today, as we mourn these two men, we renew our resolve to fight terror here at home and around the world.

“Canada must unapologetically lead in rooting out terrorism on the international stage. We call out all terrorist groups and stand up for those who remain oppressed by dictators and their tyrannical regimes. Conservatives will always demand justice for victims, and hold terrorists accountable for their crimes.

“Together with our allies, we will help shape a world where peace and justice prevail, and where freedom takes the place of fear.

“Canadians will never be intimidated by acts of terror. Our people will fight to remain free – no act of terror will ever silence us.”
